Brief Intervention
Brief Intervention is a short-term, focused piece of work designed to assist individuals in initiating change and addressing identified risk factors or unhealthy behaviours. This may include poor lifestyle choices, risk behaviours, or emerging mental health difficulties.
The service provides patients with information, practical strategies and signposting to appropriate support to enable positive change. Intervention is typically delivered over 3–8 sessions, depending on clinical need.
Aims of Brief Intervention
- Reduce identified risks
- Stabilise mental state where possible
- Enable patients to engage in further therapeutic interventions if required
- Provide medication monitoring where appropriate
- Offer an initial structured period of assessment
Supporting people with chronic or severe mental illness
We support individuals with chronic or severe mental illness who do not require inpatient care, or who can be managed at home with family involvement and a support network. Teenage patients are chaperoned by a referring patient or carer.
